Asthma

Asthma is a chronic condition in your lungs.

Asthma causes inflammation and constriction of the muscles surrounding the airways which results in a narrowing of the airways (*see diagram) The symptoms of narrowing airways can be tightness in the chest, shortness of breath, coughing and wheezing.

Medical treatment for Asthma generally involves inhalers. Inhalers contain drugs which are designed to relax the muscles surrounding the airways. The drugs in the inhalers only target the symptoms or asthma and provide temporary relief and can have side effects.
